Messages sent over the Internet in a standard format. Modern methods allow the inclusion of pictures and the attachment of other file types. Because the format allows almost instantaneous communication in a written form, its style is a mixture of formal writing language and informal spoken phrases. It also has its own language of acronyms to make writing faster such as brb for "be right back" and atm for "at the moment". Most users do not use these acronyms but they can be useful for speeding up communication with others who know them.
